Q&A ABOUT INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

Industrial designs shall include:
I. Industrial drawings, which are any combination of shapes, lines or colors incorporated in an industrial or craftwork product for ornamentation purposes and which give it a specific appearance of its own; and
II. Industrial models, which are constituted by any three-dimensional shape that serves as a model or pattern for the manufacture of an industrial or craftwork product, giving it a special appearance that does not involve any technical effects.

The industrial design registration is valid for five years from the date of filing of the application in Mexico, renewable for successive periods of the same duration up to a maximum of twenty-five years. (New Mexican Patent Law to be in force until November 2020)
